About Me
About Me

Hi there, my name is Doug and I am a digital marketing professional with a background in communication and media studies. I have 10 years of experience in digital marketing across the tertiary and not-for-profit sectors. I also hold a  PhD in Communications and Media from the University of Wollongong. My thesis is titled "Conflict-Generated Content - Cognitive Surplus and the Life Cycle of Online Conflict Reporting"and focuses on conflict journalism, fifth-generation war, online conflict propaganda and strategic conflict communications.

I currently work as the internal communications coordinator at Warrigal, and I am also the co-owner of Tactile Digital, a digital marketing agency that works with small businesses to develop and maintain their online presence. 

Outside work I enjoy spending time in the outdoors. I'm a hobbies man and I enjoy camping, hunting and fishing, as well as bike riding and doing things with my hands.

PhD - University of Wollongong

With a thesis titled "Conflict-Generated Content - Cognitive Surplus and the Life Cycle of Online Conflict Reporting", this project was an exploration into conflict-generated content on the internet, with a particular focus on Fifth-generation war and digital combatants. The project was accompanied by a portfolio of creative works that gained an insight into the process and experience of digital conflict content creators.

My honours thesis "Trending: War. The Effects of Digital Media on Conflict Journalism" focused on how the internet has changed the nature of war reporting. Conflicts focused on included the wars in Syria and Ukraine.
